One taken to hospital in west end high-rise fire

Windsor Fire and Rescue battled a high-rise fire Tuesday that investigators say started on a stovetop.

Thirty firefighters responded to the sixth floor of a building on Mill Street between Applewood Avenue and Elliott Street West, around 10:30 a.m.

Windsor Police and paramedics were also called to the scene, and one occupant was taken to the hospital with what was later reported as non-life-threatening injuries.

Windsor Fire shared on social media that the blaze caused an estimated $100,000 in damages to the unit and other units below. Three people have been displaced as a result.

Meanwhile, fire crews were also called to a fire at a vacant home on Linwood Place on Monday night.

A fire on the front porch was extinguished quickly, but firefighters have already been called out to two recent fires there.

Fire officials ask anyone with information to call Windsor Police at 519-255-6700, Crime Stoppers at 519-969-5210 ext. 2111, or go to www.catchcrooks.com.
