Local hunters fined

Two local hunters have been fined for moose hunting violations.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, a conservation officer was patrolling the area around Killala Lake Road near Marathon, Ontario on October 16, 2024. The officer discovered that a Windsor man had shot a bull moose when he was 11 kilometers away from the person in his party holding the tag.

Under the conditions of party hunting, a person must be within five kilometers of the tag holder.

The Windsor man contacted the tag holder, who then invalidated his tag by using it on the moose.

The Windsor man plead guilty and was fined $5,000 for hunting moose without a license.

The Belle River man plead guilty to unlawfully invalidating his hunting tag on an animal killed by another person. He was fined $2,000.

In addition to the fines, the moose was seized and donated to a local Indigenous community.
