Windsor police suggest people take the bus in wintry conditions

It has been a busy season for crashes in Windsor so far, and Windsor police have a suggestion to keep people safe.

Take the bus.

With a recent sharp increase in collisions, Transit Windsor and Windsor police have reminded people to take extra care when out and about in chilly and snowy weather.

Last week, police responded to 127 crashes in Windsor and Amherstburg.

Transit Windsor said using the bus is a safe way to get around and helps reduce traffic congestion.

The service also offers some suggestions for staying safe around buses.

"When walking to and from your stop, use extra caution around crosswalks and bus stops," read a social media post from Windsor police and Transit Windsor. "Sidewalks can be slippery, and visibility can change quickly. Give yourself extra time and wait for the bus to leave before crossing."

Windsor police have also reminded drivers that the annual Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) is underway, with additional RIDE checkpoints being set up in Windsor and Amherstburg.
