A regular blood donor in Windsor won Canada Blood Service's first-ever “Give and Get Away” contest.
Rebecca Martin, whose been donating blood since she was 18, is taking off to Portugal next winter with a friend.
"I was standing in my kitchen, and as I was reading the email, I was getting dizzy thinking it was a scam and then got so excited and immediately started thinking about where I could go," said Martin.
Martin had the choice of flying anywhere Air Canada travels, but eventually landed on Portugal.
"I've wanted to go for a while, and the best time for me to travel is March and the weather looks amazing in Portugal during March," said Martin.
Canada Blood Services' first-ever "Give and Get Away" contest had over 87,000 entries nationwide.
"We're always looking for more donors. We encourage anybody that's interested to come out and experience what you get when you give. As an organization, we're forecasting, over the next five years, that there will be a 20 per cent increase in blood products and a 50 per cent increase in plasma products needed," said Greg Friest, Business Development Manager.
The draw ran from January 1 – March 31, 2026, and donors were able to enter by booking and attending their appointments for a chance to win two round-trip tickets for travel to any Air Canada destination worldwide courtesy of Air Canada Foundation.
