The deadline has passed for candidates running for school board trustee seats to file their paperwork.
The four publicly-funded school boards serving Windsor-Essex will choose trustees for the term beginning this fall and ending in October 2030.
As of 5 p.m. on Friday, the following candidates have stated intentions to run, pending certification. Candidates must file with the municipality they wish to represent.
Greater Essex County District School Board (English Public)
In Windsor Wards 1, 2, and 9, both seats will be open, as Kim McKinley is not running again, and Linda Qin is running for Windsor City Council.
There are six candidates running, Fazle Baki, Tina Chittle, Todd Gervais, Sandra Kirma, Affan Shahid, and Malini Ondrovcik.
For Windsor Wards 3, 4, and 10, there are also two seats. Incumbents Malek Mekawi and Christie Nelson are both seeking re-election.
The four challengers are Mohamad Alawie, Malak Bakhash, Daniel Lockhart, and Beth St. Denis
In Windsor Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8, incumbents Gayle Hatfield and Cathy Cooke have submitted re-election paperwork.
There are four candidates vying for the two seats, Salena Hamilton, Luca Lazarus, May Lyman, and Michael Serdan.
Incumbent Trustee Chandrika Abhang is not running again in Amherstburg and LaSalle. There are three people wanting to succeed her, Mary Jane Fields, Jeremy Palko, and Adam Peterson.
For Tecumseh and Lakeshore, incumbent Connie Buckler is seeking re-election. There are two challengers, Todd Ferris and Zain Ahmed.
In Essex and Kingsville, Julia Burgess is not running again. David Keller and Jenna Knapp are vying for the vacancy.
For Leamington and Pelee Island, incumbent Cheryl Lovell is running against challenger Ethan Wuerch.
Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board (English Catholic)
Longtime Ward 1 and 10 Trustee Fulvio Valentinis is acclaimed.
Trustee Joe Iacono, in Windsor Wards 2 and 9, is running for re-election against Salam Esho.
In Windsor Wards 3 and 4, incumbent Bernie Mastromattei is seeking another term. He is being challenged by Juliet Bushi.
Jason Lazarus is running for another term in Windsor Wards 5 and 8. He will face Loona Al-Nodro and Igor Dzaic.
In Windsor Wards 6 and 7, incumbent Kim Bouchard is running against Ron Dunn.
The seat representing Amherstburg and LaSalle is open as Frank DiTomasso is not running again. Running to succeed him are Jesmond Tabone and Dana Tonus.
Tecumseh Trustee Mary Heath has been acclaimed for another term.
For Lakeshore, Trustee Lisa Soulliere has also been acclaimed.
In the seat representing Essex, Kingsville, and Leamington, incumbent Mary DiMenna is running unopposed.
Conseil scolaire catholique Providence (French Catholic)
Incumbent Jacques Kenny has been acclaimed to represent Windsor Ward 1, Tecumseh Wards 4 and 5, and the Town of LaSalle.
In Windsor Wards 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10, incumbent Christine Brooks is also acclaimed.
For Windsor Wards 6, 7, 8, and 9, incumbent Trustee Janine Brydges has submitted her re-election papers. There are two challengers, Émilie Dunnigan and Nadine Lubamba Mungu Kiezila.
In Lakeshore Wards 1 and 2; and Tecumseh Wards 1, 2, and 3, incumbent Pauline Marois is not running again. Jeannine Pellerin is the sole candidate and will be acclaimed.
Trustee Paul Lachance of Lakeshore Wards 3, 4, and 5 is unopposed.
In Lakeshore Ward 6, Leamington, and Pelee Island, Trustee Doris Sauve is running for another four years. Her only challenger is Louis Tremblay.
For the seat representing Amherstburg, Essex, and Kingsville, Didier Marotte has filed for re-election without opposition.
Conseil scoliare Viamonde (French Public)
In Windsor-Essex's sole race for the French-language public board, University of Windsor political science professor Emmanuelle Richez is acclaimed.
The election is Monday, October 26.
