Spitfires erase early three goal deficit to beat Erie

It was a tough start but a great ending for the Windsor Spitfires.

They were in Erie on Saturday taking on the Otters and ended up winning 7-5.

It was the Otters who scored three goals before six minutes had passed in the first period. They came from Pano Fimis, Martin Misiak, and Gabriel Frasca.

Despite the early lead, the two teams would be tied heading into the first intermission.

Getting the scoring started for the Spitfires was Jean-Christoph Lemieux. His 7th goal was assisted by Anthony Cristoforo and Jack Nesbitt.

Cristoforo would get the second goal, his 7th, with Nesbitt getting another assist along with AJ Spellacy.

Captain Liam Greentree tied the game for the Spitfires shortly after with his 27th goal of the season. Ilya Protas and Ethan Belchetz with the assists.

It took just over eight minutes into the second period for Windsor to get its first lead of the game. Ryan Abraham would get his 14th goal from Nesbitt.

Ethan Martin added another for the Spitfires in the period, his 4th goal. Getting the only assist was Carter Hicks.

It didn’t take long in the third period for Erie to tie the game. Callum Hughes and Sam Alfano would each score before four minutes had passed.

The Spitfires regained the lead when Belchetz found the back of the net on the powerplay for his 11th goal. Carson Woodall and Cole Davis got the assists.

Greentree would cap the scoring with an empty netter.

With the win, Windsor improves its record to 28-7-2-1, while Erie moves to 18-12-3-1.

The Spitfire's next game is on Sunday, January 5, on the road against the Niagara IceDogs.
