COVID-19 case confirmed at Catholic high school in St. Thomas

Public health officials in Elgin County have confirmed a case of COVID-19 at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in St. Thomas.

The London District Catholic School Board announced Wednesday that the case had been confirmed by Southwestern Public Health (SWPH), the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties.

"Parents/guardians and staff in the St. Joseph’s community have been notified of the case. The school will remain open and school buses will continue to operate," the board said in a statement on its website. "SWPH is currently investigating the case and is in the process of identifying close contacts. SWPH will provide advice and support to close contacts in navigating this situation."

The health unit will contact students and staff who are considered close contacts of the person who tested positive for COVID-19. Anyone who is not contacted is not considered to be at risk. Close contacts are being told to stay home and quarantine.

"Staff at St. Joseph’s will work with students and families to ensure learning continues for those who are self-isolating at home," the board said.
