More than 125 participants showed up at John McGregor Secondary School on October 6 to "Run for the Cure."
Stacy Suitor, the community communication and social media lead for the Chatham run, said that the local community raised $34,390.
This was the 33rd annual CIBC Run for the Cure.
Organizers from the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) confirmed that more than 55,000 participants and volunteers took part and raised over $15 million.
"We are thrilled by the incredible turnout and overwhelming support for this year's Run for the Cure," said Laurie Benner, CCS's Interim Vice President of Signature Programs. "This special event continues to be the largest single-day, volunteer-led initiative in support of the breast cancer cause in Canada. The Run reflects our shared belief that we can transform breast cancer forever when we work together."
Since the inaugural Run in 1992, more than $522 million has been raised to contribute to furthering the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, and ensuring those facing a diagnosis can live longer, fuller lives
The Canada-wide event consists of a 1K, 5K, or 10K walk or run with all donations going to support those affected by breast cancer and invest in research.
In Chatham-Kent, the event was held at Mud Creek Trail.
