Amec Foster Wheeler Expands In Bruce County

Another global business giant is expanding into Bruce County.

Amec Foster Wheeler will soon be opening an office in Kincardine.

The company provides extensive technical, licensing, regulatory, and engineering design support to Bruce Power.  The Kincardine office will have an initial complement of engineers.  The longer-term objective is a staff of about 100.

A number of other suppliers for Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program have started expanding into Bruce, Grey and Huron counties in recent months.

"We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Bruce Power, to support its business objectives and contribution to the local economy," says John Mackinnon, president of Amec Foster Wheeler’s nuclear business in North America.

Bruce County Warden Mitch Twolan welcomed Amec Foster Wheeler to the region.

"We appreciate the value their commitment to local economic development has had on surrounding communities," says Twolan. "Our partnership with Bruce Power and the opportunities this brings to the area is critical to ensuring the long-term sustainability of Bruce Power and our communities."

And Gary Newman, Bruce Power’s chief engineer and senior vice president, engineering, nuclear operations, is just as optimistic.

"We are pleased to see Amec Foster Wheeler establish a local presence, while creating highly skilled jobs, supporting community economic development, and enabling innovation," says Newman.

Amec Foster Wheeler designs, delivers and maintains strategic and complex assets for its customers across the global energy and related sectors.  Its nuclear business in Canada has a history of over 35 years of providing technical, analytical, licensing, regulatory, project management and engineering design services to Bruce Power and other Canadian nuclear utilities.

Amec Foster Wheeler employes an estimated 35,000 people in more than 55 countries.
