The mayor of Goderich says he has a couple of issues he wants to look into while he's at the Ontario Small Urban Municipalities conference in Niagara Falls this week.
Kevin Morrison says he has some concerns about the Safe Ontario Act and how that will impact local Police Services Boards. Morrison says there will be a meeting on that so he'll be looking for more information there. Morrison says he's also looking forward to meeting with the Housing Minister and in particular discussing affordable housing. Goderich has recently announced plans for an affordable housing development behind the new hotel on the former Victoria Public School property. Morrison says the original plan called for ten units but the developer has agreed to up that number.
Morrison says he'll be announcing more details on that project in a few weeks. Morrison points out Goderich and Huron County generally, desperately needs more people of working age but it's difficult to attract those people if they don't have a place to live.
“That's going to change everything, particularly when it comes to our Police Services Board and I wanna get an update on that and there is actually a session on that. I mean it's a done deal and now I wanna know, now that the act seems to have passed, what's going to happen with our Police Services Board.”
“Affordable housing's really that last thing on my platform that has come to fruition and I have an announcement to make in just a few weeks. When we had looked at affordable housing we had looked initially at ten units and the developer of the project is going to up that.”
