The Municipality of Kincardine has announced how it will fill its vacant councillor seat, with only around six months left in this council term.
The town appointed Mike Hinchberger to the role of Deputy Mayor, which was vacated by Andrea Clarke after she accepted a position as a part-time deputy judge.
Hinchberger's seat will now be filled by appointment, as a byelection is not permitted this close to a general election.
Given the short turnaround, the Municipality is only inviting applications from candidates in the 2022 election, those that applied to fill Councillor Doug Kennedy's vacant seat in 2024 or previous members of council over the last decade.
The town says it will contact all those that meet these criteria individually.
Council must appoint a replacement by June 21. The appointed individual will serve the remainder of the term, ending November 14.
