The Walkerton Hawks emerged victorious over the Hanover Barons 7-6 in a game one that need overtime to be decided. The battle was game one of the Western Junior C semi finals with Walkerton taking a 1-0 series lead.
All three periods turned out to be a back to back affair with Walkerton opening the scoring with a pair from Jay Thomson and Reid Simmons. Hanover answered right back with Ben Watson and Colton Culbert getting on the board.
In the second it was much of the same. Barons captain Tyson Soers' marker was answered with Simmons' second of the night. The Barons would end up adding two more to end the period up 5-3. Mitchell Pike and Brad Pitt got credit.
Walkerton took control in the third with 3 straight goals to take a one goal lead in the final frame. Lauchlin Elder and Calvin Penney got the first two with Simmons completing the hat rick. The lead would be short lived with Lucas Johnson scoring for Hanover to force OT.
Calvin Penney would get his second of the night to give Walkerton the victory, and a 1-0 lead in the series. Game 2 goes in Hanover Sunday at 2:30
