It would appear a lot of people in the Herman Secondary School community don't want a name change next year when the school becomes a JK to Grade 12 facility.
The Greater Essex County District School Board is considering the possibility of changing the name as the school prepares to amalgamate with Percy P. McCallum Public School this fall.
While it's collecting suggestions on its web page, a petition started by a parent has already gathered more than 2,000 signatures calling on the board of trustees to keep W.F. Herman in the name.
Martha Hradowy started her petition Saturday, one day after the board announced it was open to changing the name.
"I did expect a good response," she says. "Certainly not to the level that it has in the short time frame."
Trustees are expected to make their decision at an upcoming meeting.
W.F. Herman was the owner and publisher of the Windsor Star up until his death in 1918.
