If you need to have a police clearance done in Windsor-Essex, you'll need access to a computer.
The Essex County Ontario Provincial Police has moved to a streamlined process for volunteers, educators, or anyone else who requires a police check. The change was made to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 by limiting contact.
The pandemic has resulted in a backlog of police clearance applications. The OPP said the current processing time could take up to four to six weeks.
Applications are no longer being taken at detachments. However, if more information is required, the applicant will then be asked to visit a detachment in person.
"Applicants may be required to attend their local OPP detachment if fingerprinting is required," according to the OPP's official website. "Applicants will be contacted by their local detachment to provide identification, make payment and to obtain their results."
Payment will be accepted by credit card only.
The OPP will only accept applications from residents who live in a municipality that is served by the OPP. Windsor, Amherstburg, and LaSalle residents should visit their respective police service's website for information on how to proceed with a background check.
Complete information about police clearances can be found at the OPP's website.
