A former student at F.J. Brennan Catholic High School in Windsor is headed to the University of Oxford in England.
Nick Harris is one of just 11 students in Canada to win a Rhodes Scholarship and will join the class of 2022 along with 100 others from around the world.
Since its inception in 1903, nearly 8,000 students, including 1,000 from Canada, have won the prestigious honour.
Past scholars include former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former Ontario Premier Bob Rae, and astronomer Edwin Hubble.
The scholars are chosen through a highly competitive process, open to those students who show exceptional character, leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to solving humanity's challenges.
Harris studied Political Science and Law at the University of King's College in Halifax as a Loran Scholar. He has spoken to thousands of young people as a motivational speaker on the values of community, accessibility, and inclusion. He has also worked as a policy analyst tackling complex domestic and international policy issues.
He plans to pursue a Master's in International Relations at Oxford before embarking on a career in politics.
The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the second-oldest in continuous operation.
