New services for survivors of gender-based violence

Legal Assistance of Windsor is now offering services for survivors of gender-based violence and sexual assault.

Justice Canada's Victims Fund and Justice Partnership and Innovation Program are provided funding for a lawyer and a social worker to support the services for the next four years.

"We will provide not only legal advice and representation but also safety planning work, social work assessment, and referrals to agencies," said Legal Assistance of Windsor Executive Director Marian Overholt.

The trauma-informed legal advice is available free of charge to all individuals in the community regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.

"We are in a position to be providing support to people who have experienced emotional and psychological violence as well as financial abuse and other forms of violence that occurs in intimate partnerships," said social worker Amanda Pierce.

The services can be accessed by contacting Legal Assistance of Windsor.
