Sarnia-Lambton Real Estate Breaks Another Record

Sarnia-Lambton real estate sales broke another ten-year record last month.

Real Estate Board President Jane Baker says 178 properties sold in October with a dollar volume of $39-million, up 18 per cent over last year.

She says the increase is due in part to a doubling of the number of properties sold in the $400,000 to $450,000 range than 2014.

"It's a record breaking year over the last ten years for October," says Baker. "I think the weather has a lot to do with that, the interest rates we have. It's just been a really strong, steady market all year and I don't see it changing."

Baker says it's been a very successful year so far with ten-year records being broken in five different months.

She's concerned the Ontario government's plans to double land transfer taxes on home buyers province-wide could affect the successful numbers happening locally.

There are currently 735 active listings in the MLS system including 369 single family homes.

The average sale price so far this year is $219,000, down slightly from $220,000 last year.
