Sarnia police say a former youth basketball coach, accused of historic sexual offences, has been arrested in British Columbia.

Earlier this year, police said the Criminal Investigations Division received a complaint about the offences dating back to 1989.

The victim, now an adult, was a young person at the time.

Police said James (Jim) Matthew Miller, 59, now of Penticton BC, has been charged with the following:

- Sexual Interference (two counts)

- Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age (two counts)

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Miller, and he was taken into custody by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on Thursday, August 1.

He was scheduled to appear by video Thursday in Sarnia court.

Miller, a city councillor in Penticton, BC who is currently on mandatory leave, is also a former Sarnia newspaper sports reporter.

Police said this investigation is ongoing and they would like to speak with anyone who may have additional information or may be a victim.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service, Criminal Investigations Division and speak with Detective Constable Andrew Veale at (519) 344-8861 ext. 6131.
