Lambton Shores is nearly at the end of phase one of revitalizing the downtown Forest parkette.
The project is to create a community space for events and is to be constructed in several phases.
"Phase one of the project is nearly complete. The wall restoration, concrete work and water connections were completed. Hydro work is currently underway, and sod is scheduled to go in this spring. Phase two of the project will include furniture installations and landscaping," said Alex Boughen, Manager of Licensing and Communications for Lambton Shores. "The Municipality has also applied to the Rural Ontario Development grant program to support phase two amenities."
The parkette has faced several challenges including finding funding.
The parkette will be in two vacant lots on King Street West that Lambton Shores Council purchased in early 2024, and will include a seating area, gardens and trees, mixed-use seating and a stage for local performers.
