Drones Become More Affordable For Farm Use

There could be more drones flying over Ontario farm fields in the near future.

OMAFRA's Ron Lackey says the technology is there and becoming more affordable.

He says drones could provide valuable information on feed crops for cattle producers.

"We may be able to set up programs where you could check protein levels of alfalfa before it's harvested, you could check moisture levels of a crop before they're harvested so that would be very useful information." said Lackey.

Lackey was a guest speaker at Beef Day at Grey Bruce Farmer Week in Elmwood.

Lackey says cost is always the issue.
