Federal party leaders will converge for a national debate hosted by the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.
It's going to be held on Tuesday, September 24. Representatives from the Liberal Party of Canada, Conservative Party of Canada, the New Democratic Party and the Green Party of Canada will share their policy positions.
The debate is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and be available on both the Canadian Federation of Agriculture Facebook page and YouTube channel.
There are also some local debates scheduled in Moorefield and Monkton for Perth-Wellington candidates.
On October 3 the Wellington Federation of Agriculture hosts a debate at the Optimist Hall at 7:30 p.m. in Moorefield. And on October 7, the Perth County Federation of Agriculture hosts a debate at the Elma-Logan Recreation Complex in Monkton at 7:30 p.m.
There was a recent debate between local candidates in the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound riding in Keady.
Despite the scheduled leaders debate to be put on by the CFA, a new survey conducted earlier this month shows Canadians don’t put food and agriculture too high on the election list.
The survey was done September 9 and released this week by Angus Reid Global along with Dalhousie University’s Agri-Food Analytics Lab.
It reports that just 31 per cent of Canadians believe food and agriculture will be a prime electoral issue during the election.
But some particular points are getting more attention, as 3 of 5 Canadians say food security and affordability is an important issue. And 54 per cent of those polled say the use of plastics in the food industry is a concern. And food waste is also an issue.
1,524 people were surveyed and the margin of error is less than three per cent, 19 times out of 20.
