New Councillor In Leamington

Bill Dunn is officially a Leamington councillor.

He was sworn in at Monday night's meeting, replacing the vacant seat left by the passing of the late Rick Atkin. Dunn knows he has a big seat to fill.

"Sitting in this chair, it's humbling to sit in this chair. [Atkin] gave me support as well, when I was going through [the election] he said I'd make a good councillor," says Dunn. "There's lots of stuff I need to learn, but I'm up to the challenge."

Dunn was appointed councillor as the candidate in the last election with the most votes not to be elected. He never had a second thought once Leamington Mayor John Paterson asked him to sit on council.

"I never wavered from that decision, that I do want to be on council and I would like to be part of a great little community that has given me support in the soup kitchen and it'd be an honour to represent them," says Dunn, hoping his time on council will see moves made to attract new business to town. "I'm very excited about trying to support any move we to do support commercial business, bringing in business."

Atkin's passing was announced April 22.
