Public Information Meeting Set For New Transformer Station

A pre-construction public information meeting regarding the new transformer station in Leamington is being held on November 23.

The new station will open up more power capacity in the south county area to meet the demand of industries like the greenhouse sector.

The Kingsville transformer station has been the only major outlet for power in the area and the town's mayor, Nelson Santos, says the upcoming meeting is another sign the project is moving ahead as promised.

"This meeting I think is the stamp of approval that we've been looking for because it signifies that Hydro One and their project team has basically completed much of their site acquisitions necessary to bring the line into our region," says Santos.

He adds the meeting can help to confirm estimated service dates.

"We're looking now at summer 2018 as a real concrete date when everything will be up and running and having the actual breaking ground, potentially before the end of this year," says Santos.

The meeting is set to place at the Leamington municipal building from 6pm to 8pm on November 23.
