Knights top Spits in season opener

The London Knights beat the Windsor Spitfires 5-2 in their first game of the regular season on Friday.

Daniel D'Amico started the game with a goal for Windsor 4:02 into the first period, but Connor McMichael added one for London less than 30 seconds later to tie things up. McMichael then scored another goal late in the second to give the Knights a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

Matvey Guskov, Billy Moskal and Cole Tymkin scored back-to-back goals in the final frame to ensure the win for London.

London goaltender Jordan Kooy made 24 saves out of 26 shots on net, while Windsor goalie Michael DiPietro made 21 saves out of 26 shots.

The Spitfires will return home on Thursday to battle the Saginaw Spirit at 7:05 p.m. And then on September 28, the Knights are on home ice to face off against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at 7:30 p.m.
