Tecumseh Town Council has approved a bid from TCI Titan Contracting to carry out over $2.5-million worth of renovations at Tecumseh Arena.
The contractor had the lowest bid of the five companies that responded to a request for tenders. The highest bid was over $2.9-million.
The arena suffered almost $900,000 in damage last Canada Day weekend when a severe thunderstorm and partially blocked storm sewer caused flooding on the main floor.
The arena will get new flooring this summer. The front lobby, washrooms, concessions, and audio-visual equipment will get upgrades. The contractor will also build a new barrier-free corridor to the dressing rooms and a new staircase to the second floor.
Councillors had already approved $891,000 to fix damage caused by the flood, while another $1.8-million is in its arena lifecycle reserve. Another $600,000 is budgeted for the new staircase.
In March, the town said the arena would be closed most of the summer for the work.
