Lots to do this Canada Day

When you head out Monday morning to watch the Canada Day Parade in downtown Windsor, don't forget to bring some non-perishable food to donate to the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association.

The Association says its members will be in the parade pushing grocery store carts to collect those and monetary donations.

"All the food collected along the Canada Day route will directly benefit food-insecure individuals in our community," said June Muir, CEO of the UHC - Hub of Opportunities and WEFBA President.

Food banks see a drop in donations during the summer, although the need persists.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Canada Day at the corner of Ouellette Avenue and Wyandotte Street. The procession heads north up Ouellette before turning west on Riverside Drive and ending at Caron Avenue.

Those who head downtown early might want to check out the Canada Day Arts Fair hosted by the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association.

Vendors will have unique items for sale, including vintage clothing, home decor, art pieces, books, toys, and electronics.

The art fair starts at 10 a.m. on University Avenue between Pelissier Street and Ouellette and ends at 2 p.m.

The Town of Amherstburg has its own Canada Day celebrations with a lineup of activities for the whole family.

The day starts with the Canada Day Run, Walk or Wheel at 9 a.m. in Toddy Jones Park, followed by a Mighty Machines display from noon to 5 p.m.

As the sun sets, join the crowd in King's Navy Yard Park for opening ceremonies, a concert featuring Adam Butcher and the Buck Twenty Band, and fireworks.

Leamington celebrates Canada Day with a performance by Canadian country music star Terri Clark at the Seacliff Park Amphitheatre. Local talent Michelle Wright is the opening act.

Celebrations in Leamington reach their grand finale with a fireworks display over Lake Erie starting at 10 p.m.

The Town of Tecumseh celebrates diversity and inclusivity with its Canada Day event in Lakewood Park South on July 1.

Zehrs in Tecumseh is sponsoring a free community BBQ starting at 1 p.m., but don't miss the pony rides, bouncy castles, lawn games, Border City Barkers dog show, and multicultural performances until 4 p.m.
