The City of Windsor and Essex County will head to the streets this week to perform a federally mandated survey.
Volunteers will be deployed for the Point in Time (PiT) Count, street count, and survey.
"During this community event, dozens of trained volunteers will be deployed throughout the city and county to ensure individuals, families, and youth experiencing homelessness receive an opportunity to be counted and surveyed," read a release from the City. "Volunteers will engage with people experiencing homelessness in shelters, temporary accommodations, and unsheltered locations, such as sidewalks, parks, and other public places."
The street count will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. The City of Windsor will use the information to determine service needs and draw long-term plans to combat homelessness.
Windsor-Essex has done surveys in 2016, 2018, and 2021.
The City, serving as the Community Entity and Service Manager for homelessness in Windsor-Essex, will work with OrgCode Consulting to conduct the enumeration.
