LaSalle police to host Polar Plunge on January 23

A local police service will take the plunge to support Special Olympics Ontario.

For the first time, LaSalle police will host its own Polar Plunge on Thursday, January 23, at the LaSalle Event Centre.

As in with similar events held across Windsor-Essex in recent years, a pool of icy water will be set up, and brave participants will jump in to raise money for a worthy cause.

About 60 first responders, students, and business owners have already signed on to take the plunge. According to a release from LaSalle police, LaSalle Mayor Crystal Meloche and Police Chief Michael Pearce are also expected to participate.

Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., with the plunge starting at 6 p.m.

St. Clair College is also offering an incentive to graduating high school students who participate: a $500 bursary for those currently enrolled in a St. Clair program.

There is room for more people to register for the Polar Plunge, either as an individual or part of a team. To sign up, or if you just wish to pledge a jumper, visit this link.
