Igloo cooler recalled after handle amputates fingertips

More than a million Igloo coolers, including 47,000 sold in Canada, are being recalled due to an issue with the handle that has led to fingertip amputations.

Health Canada, along with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and Texas-based Igloo Products Corp., issued the recall for the Igloo 90-Quart Flip and Tow Rolling Coolers on Thursday.

"The tow handle of the coolers can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards," Health Canada said in an advisory.

The affected products, which came in multiple body and lid color combinations, were sold between May 2019 and February 2025 and can be identified by model number and description. The model number is located on labels affixed to the side and bottom of the cooler.

Anyone who had one of the recalled coolers is advised to "immediately" stop using it and contact Igloo to receive a free replacement tow handle.

On top of the 47,000 of the coolers sold in Canada, 1.06 million were sold in the United States, and 23,000 were sold in Mexico.

As of February 3, there have been no reported injuries related to the cooler in Canada. However, Igloo has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations, in the U.S.

Consumers can contact Igloo by phone at 1-888-943-5182 or by email at igoo90qt@sedgwick.com to request a handle replacement.
