LG Electric Ranges recalled due to fire hazard

A number of electric ranges with front-mounted knobs are being recalled because they pose a potential fire hazard.

LG Electronics Canada is issuing the recall in cooperation with Health Canada. The company said that the knobs can accidentally be activated by humans or pets causing a safety hazard.

The affected products include slide-in and freestanding ranges, all of which have five surface elements and front-mounted knobs. A full list of the recalled models can be found here.

According to the company, 137,257 affected units were sold in Canada between May 2016 and June 2024.

"Consumers should immediately contact LG Electronics Canada, Inc. for a free warning label and placement instructions," Health Canada said in a release. "Consumers may continue to use their range while waiting for the free warning label and instructions."

LG is encouraging anyone using any of its products to familiarize themselves with all of the safety features and to follow instructions and warnings contained in the owner's manual.

As of February 12, 2025, eight incidents involving the ranges have been reported to LG Electronics Canada. Two reports of injuries have also been received, including one minor burn.
