What's open and closed on Labour Day in Windsor-Essex?

The unofficial end of the summer holiday season means that many people will take the day off on Labour Day.

Labour Day is a statutory holiday, so many businesses and institutions will either be closed or on shortened hours.

All federal, provincial, and municipal offices in Windsor-Essex will be closed. All Service Ontario branches will also be closed, though some transactions may be performed online.

All four public school boards serving Windsor-Essex are closed Monday, but begin the fall semester on Tuesday.

All Windsor Public Library and Essex Public Library branches are closed on Sunday and Monday.

The 311 call centre will be closed, and reopen on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 211 call centre will be open 24 hours as usual.

Residential garbage and recycling collection in the City of Windsor will proceed as normal. Commercial, front-end loader, and weekly non-eligible source recycling collections are also as scheduled. However, the public drop-off and household chemical waste depot at Central Avenue and the E.C. Row is closed Monday.

The H-4 program at Windsor Water World is open 24 hours for those looking for housing or homelessness help.

All community centres, customer care centres, and arenas in Windsor are closed on Labour Day except for scheduled events or pre-booked rentals.

The City's six outdoor pools, with the exception of Atkinson, will close for the season on Monday. Atkinson Pool will be open past Labour Day for fit lane swimming and aquafitness. Refer to the City's Active Windsor page for details.

Sandpoint Beach in Windsor is closed indefinitely for swimming due to safety concerns, but the parkland and picnic area will be open.

The indoor pools at the WFCU Centre and the Gino and Liz Marcus Community Complex are closed on Monday. The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre's pool is also closed, but the fitness centre will be open Labour Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Adventure Bay Family Water Park is open on Labour Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., then will close through Friday, September 19, for annual maintenance.

All splash pads in the City of Windsor are open on Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Lakeview Park Marina's launch ramps will be open on Labour Day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The office and fuel dock will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Street-metered parking in Windsor on Monday will be free, though the city’s paid surface lots and garages will operate as usual. Municipal ticket payment offices will be closed.

Transit Windsor buses will run on a Sunday schedule on Labour Day. The Windsor International Transit Terminal will be open on Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students and new transit riders requiring a new bus pass are encouraged to visit during these times.

The LCBO is closed on Labour Day.

Select Beer Store locations are open on Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check with your favourite location to avoid a wasted trip.

Devonshire Mall in Windsor is open on Labour Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tecumseh Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Francois Baby House and the Chimczuk Museum will be closed on Labour Day, though the Streetcar No. 351 at the Legacy Beacon will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
