Santa comes to Windsor on Saturday

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of downtown Windsor this Saturday evening for the 58th annual Santa Claus Parade.

The parade gets underway at 6 p.m. at the corner of Ouellette Avenue and Giles Boulevard, travels north up Ouellette, and ends at Pitt Street.

This year's Grand Marshalls are Windsor Police Inspector Jennifer Crosby, and undefeated women's boxing champion Kara Ro.

This is the 58th annual parade, and more than 70 groups have submitted entries to participate, including some organizations that have never taken part before.

Road closures will be staggered before the parade, and the follow roads will be shut down.

* Ouellette Avenue from Shepherd Street to Giles Boulevard will close from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

* Giles Boulevard West between Church Street and Ouellette Avenue will close at 5:40 p.m. and reopen at 6 p.m.

*Ouellette Avenue, south of Wyandotte Street will close at 5:30 p.m.

* Ouellette Avenue, north of Wyandotte Street will close at 6 p.m.

Giles Boulevard East will remain open for emergency access to Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus.

The Windsor Santa Claus Parade is the second last of the season.

The Essex BIA Santa Claus Parade will be the final one. It's scheduled for December 13 at 6:30 p.m. along Talbot Street from Fairview Avenue to Medora Avenue.
