The clock is ticking on the deadline to raise concerns about York1's Dresden Landfill expansion project.
A pair of notices from York1 were recently sent out to Chatham-Kent (CK) Council, business owners, and community members related to a waste transfer and processing facility and an associated landfill on Irish School Road in Dresden.
Those notices, both dated July 30, say comments and concerns about the project must be submitted within 15 days of receiving them.
York1's proposal for the waste transfer and processing facility includes receiving, transferring, sorting and processing non-hazardous waste, construction and demolition waste, wood waste, soils and other materials. It states the facility would be permitted to receive up to 3,000 tonnes of material per day.
The second notice is a separate application for an eight-hectare landfill. The landfill would be for non-hazardous materials, mainly construction and demolition waste and excess soil. The application asks for the allowance of up to 1,000 tonnes of waste received per day, or 365,000 tonnes annually.
The municipality urges anyone with questions or concerns to send them directly to the province at [email protected] addressed to Neryed Ragbar with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks.
CK council has unanimously voted against the York1 proposals and said it will continue to advocate for the Dresden community "through the appropriate regulatory processes."
