19-year-old arrested after exotic bird theft

Windsor police have arrested a suspect wanted for a bizarre theft last week.

Officers were called to a house on University Avenue East near Marentette Avenue on June 23. They were told that three masked people had hopped a fence the night before and entered an exotic bird coop on the property.

Thirty exotic birds, worth a total of $30,000, were stolen. One bird was killed during the incident.

A 29-year-old man was arrested by Chatham-Kent police. He's charged with break-and-enter to commit theft over $5,000, willfully harming an animal, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and wearing a disguise to commit an offence.

On Tuesday, Windsor officers arrested a 19-year-old man on Howard Avenue.

He's charged with break-and-enter and commit theft over $5,000 in a place other than a dwelling, animal cruelty, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence.

A third suspect, a juvenile, remains outstanding.

The charges have not been proven in court.
