WEEDC Sitting on Unused Funds

The Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation is sitting on almost $2-million of unspent funds.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says that's frustrating when Windsor currently has the highest unemployment rate in the country.

"What are you doing with all this money that's in your account? Why do we have this much money? We should be spending what we are funded to spend every year."

The $2-million is equivalent to the corporation's annual operating revenue. Dilkens says from what he can see it comes from programs that weren't run and staff positions that were left unfilled.

Dilkens expects the WEEDC board to approve issuing rebate cheques for both the city and the county for the unused funds.

WEEDC is holding a news conference Wednesday at 12:30pm in the mayor's office to explain the unused money.
