MADD Launches 30th Red Ribbon Campaign

MADD Canada is launching its "Red Ribbon" campaign for the 30th year.

The campaign aims to encourage people to drive sober, particularly around the holidays. People often tie ribbons on their cars to remind people around them to also take the pledge and drive sober.

Spokesperson Chaouki Hamka says though they've made a lot of progress over 30 years, but the message still hasn't sunk in for all people.

"Thousands of lives have been saved through our project red ribbon campaign. But we always say we still have a lot of work to do. People are starting to understand and get the message, but there are those who unfortunately are slacking in that good decision," says Hamka.

The campaign was launched at Kennedy high school with local police services, EMS and fire services. Windsor police and Essex County OPP say they are committed to increased enforcement on the roads throughout the holiday season.
