The province's police watchdog has determined Windsor police officers used reasonable force when they broke a man's nose broken during an arrest this summer.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) report stated police were called to a domestic disturbance on August 19. According to the SIU, the man was found to be combative and highly intoxicated.
The 29-year-old was arrested for public intoxication. The SIU heard the man then pushed one police officer, punched another, and kicked a third.
The man's nose was fractured during the physical struggle during the arrest. He was taken to Windsor Regional Hospital after his arrest and was examined.
"While I accept that the Complainant broke his nose in the altercation that marked his arrest, there are no reasonable grounds to believe the injury was attributable to unlawful conduct on the part of the arresting officers. As such, there is no basis for proceeding with criminal charges in this case," said SIU Director Joseph Martino in his report.
